Hi and welcome to my blog stop for Alicia Thompson's With Love, From Cold World! A big thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC. All opinions provided are my own.Summary.Lauren Fox is a glass-half-empty kind of girl who is very content with her life. One could argue maybe too content. She may be the bookkeeper at a theme park, but she doesn’t find her work experience nearly as fun as those around her. She much rather hide in her office then have to socialize with customers—or worse, her co-workers. Specifically, Asa Williamson. Ever optimistic Asa loves finding ways to brighten his days at Cold World—whether that means organizing the Secret Santa or playing Snow Globe Guard. He also happens to be super attractive—something Lauren annoyingly can’t seem to ignore. But as glass-half-full as Asa may appear to Lauren, he has every reason to be jaded—his uber religious family disowned him for being bisexual and he hasn’t spoken to them since. When Cold World’s owner calls Lauren and Asa into a meeting to tell them that the theme park is in trouble, the last thing they want is to work together to come up with a solution. It turns out a winter wonderland in a summer destination is quite niche, and it’s becoming increasingly harder to compete with the major amusement parks down the road. But because the situation is dire, they must put their feelings side and find a way to save Cold World. As these polar opposites work together to save the day, things start to heat up. If Asa thought Lauren didn't know how to enjoy herself, he's surprised by how much he enjoys spending time together. And if Lauren thought Asa wasn't serious about anything, she's surprised by how seriously he seems to take her. I adored this book for many reasons, including: ❄️the enemies to lovers arc, which felt realistic given how seemingly different each lead is & their various insecurities/challenges/personality habits. ❄️a locked in scene, where both MCs are locked in at their attraction & where things really progress emotionally & physically in their relationship! ❄️ found family rep. Talk about getting to your heart…I love how friendship is portrayed in this book & Lauren’s efforts to put herself out there more. ❄️bisexual rep. I’ve only read a few books where the hero is bisexual & the other lead is a female. Asa has a backstory that I think will be meaningful to many readers. (Please check out trigger warnings). This book has steam and poignancy, & I had such a great time on the journey. Love these characters—do I relate to the self-conscious heroine or do I relate —& the happiness they find with each other. 5⭐️. Out 08/01.CWs: references to foster care experience, parental drug use. Asa’s parents made him leave their home when someone outed him without his consent. He is estranged from his parents for much of the book.Is this one also on your TBR? Are you as much of a fan of found family romances as I am?Let me know what you think and thanks for stopping by!

Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC. All opinions provided are my own.A small magical community where dangerous things can happen, a prickly MC & her half-Fae lover, a nurtured grudge & a forbidden spell. In Charm’s Way by Lana Harper has all of this & while I have my quibbles with the book, it’s also fun & atmospheric & the premise gives me those witchy romance vibes that put roses in my cheeks. In true Jess fashion I hadn’t read the three previous books in the series & this book definitely relates to previous events within the series. With that being said, after a bit of initial confusion surrounding who the romantic interest was (*my fault entirely*) I was just fine. Witch Delilah Harlow is having a tough time after losing her memory. Many of the memories have returned but others have not / do not, & in a moment of escalated emotion she decides to issue a spell from a taboo book. This sets off a series of events including getting to know Catriona Arachne Quinn, a half-Fae monster hunter, better. With danger, intrigue, & complicated friendship dynamics, this book serves up an entertaining Halloween-appropriate supernatural tale. I adore the premise & the Queer rep in the primary & secondary characters but I wish the book had been a bit tighter in execution in moments. Have you read this series? 3.5⭐️. Out 08/22.CWs: Catriona was abandoned by mother; childhood was difficult given that she’s half-Fae. Deception. Violence, death of supernatural creatures.
Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC. All opinions provided are my own. I almost almost DNFed THANK YOU FOR SHARING by Rachel Runya Katz—mostly because I was initially taken aback by the heroine & her interactions with the hero —but by the middle & end this contemporary totally won me over & it wasn’t by the heroine drastically changing her entire personality. This is still a story about a heroine who is not all sunshine & rainbows. This *is* about a heroine who roasts the hero at most opportunities. Whose museum curating job is very important to her. Who is dealing with her past & confronting the fear of opening up. & in the end, I adored Aliyah Cohen-Jackson & Daniel Rosenberg separately, together, & as part of a friendship quartet. I also love the Jewish rep in this book (& the discussions of what it means for the leads to be Black & Jewish & Korean & Jewish, respectively); the sensitivity of the hero; the epistolary elements (the meeting notes from their friendship group are so funny!); & how pro therapy this book is. In the end, this is a rich, compelling romance that addresses so many weighty topics (see CWs) but does it with grace & moments of humor & heat & I’m really glad I finished it. Also really glad for the reminder that romance heroines can be “unlikeable,” that they don’t have to make it comfortable for everyone all the time to earn a HEA or a place in a friend group. 4.5⭐️. Out 09/12.CWs: Racism. Previous death of father. Heroine’s college best friend raped her when she was intoxicated & during the book she runs into him at an event.
Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC and @harlequinpublicityteam @harlequinbooks for the complimentary galley. All opinions provided are my own.How much of this book did I read with a smile on my face? Impossible to know but Time to Shine by Rachel Reid is *adorable* (asterisks for emphasis) & I highly recommend it when you want an extra dose of sweet sweet sunshine. Like the Game Changers series, TTS features pro hockey players but this one has an added layer of suspense bc goalie Landon is temporarily filling in on other lead’s Casey team. The professional stakes for him are huge & it really ramps up the romantic and emotional tension too. Moving from a roommates to friends to lovers arc, this romance is sweet & soft like advertised in the first paragraph, with a golden retriever & terse hero pairing that really got to my heart. In a change from hockey romances I’ve read before, the team Landon joins is aware and accepting of Casey’s bisexuality & various team members pop in & even encourage them (however indirectly) on their romantic journey. Time to Shine is a feel good book that pleases on so many levels: sports romance, friends to lovers, pro therapy, great communication between leads. Give it a try & then come shout about it my DMs! 4.5⭐️. Out 09/26.Please see a trusted reviewer’s list of CWs.
Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC. All opinions provided are my own.Want an intense fantasy from the word “go”? Try Hannah Kaner’s Godkiller, a multi-POV epic story featuring a god-killing bisexual heroine who has a prosthetic after her father sacrificed her leg to save her life the night her entire family was killed. Whew that’s a lot, right?! But like I said, this book is intense & compelling, with a reluctantly helpful heroine, a young orphaned charge who just happens to be connected to a small god, & a mysterious soldier-turned-baker who all make a journey to a war-torn city for different reasons. With standout queer rep & disabled rep, some steam, a multi-person POV, & a thrilling conclusion, this striking fantasy leaves the reader wanting more. 4.5⭐️. Thanks to the author, publisher, & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC. All opinions provided are my own. If you say Prohibition-era romance I’m there, not to mention when a book balances steam & sweetness & care like Allie Therin’s Once a Rogue. OAR is book 2 in the Roaring Twenties Magic series, which is a spin-off of the Magic in Manhattan series. You absolutely have to read book 1, Proper Scoundrels, which focuses on the same couple as OAR, but I don’t think you have to start at the beginning of the Magic in Manhattan series if you don’t want to! (check out my Stories & I’ll try to explain this better!) With all of that being said, OAR & the first book Proper Scoundrels focus on grumpy/rude Lord Wesley Fine (no magical abilities) & the “dangerous marshmallow” Sebastian (magical abilities). This book builds so beautifully on their relationship! The sweetness of grumpy/rude Wesley slowly & so deliberately trying to be sweet & caring with Sebastian. Allowing himself to be soft! There are several moments in here that had me all up in my feels & the steam! Yummmmmmmm on all levels. Highly recommend both series but this one in particular is a fave! 5⭐️. Out 08/22.Please see a trusted reviewer’s list of CWs.
Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary e-ARC. All opinions provided are my own. Witches have had hold on my imagination since The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Bring Me Your Midnight by Rachel Griffin has witches, forbidden love, tested friendship, & a young woman trying to figure out a path forward while learning the lies that her society has been built upon. Tana has known forever that she will marry the governor’s son in order to cement an alliance between her community of witches & the non-magical humans who fear magic & try to control its wielding. But meeting Wolfe Hawthorne & seeing a lie revealed opens up her eyes & makes her question the fate she once accepted. Bring Me Your Midnight is an atmospheric story layered with secrets & yearning & tension. This is a world where magic is powerful & where using it makes Tana feel conflicted, where magic is loved by some & feared by many others. With complicated family dynamics—there are secrets & also love—, with powerful external & internal forces that make Tana wonder what is right & wrong & how her own self factors into the equation, with a strong friendship that might crumble under the weight of those aforementioned factors, Bring Me Your Midnight is a stirring, intriguing tale of moonlight & waves. 4⭐️.
