​Summary. 

Evelyn is a witch with a perfect storm of impulses: terrible taste in bed partners, sticky fingers, and a lust for danger. After she steals from her vampire ex and falls through a portal to another realm, she’s fished out of the waters by a band of seafarers and their telekinetic captain. She’s immediately given a choice—join their group or die.

Bowen has no memory of his life before he became one of the Cŵn Annwn. He and his pirate crew are bound by vow to patrol through Threshold, the magical sea in between realms, keeping the portals to other worlds safe. When he rescues Evelyn, he doesn’t expect to be attracted to the unflappably brassy pickpocket. The longer he spends in her presence, the more he begins to question if his heart is the next thing she’ll steal.

But as tension heats up between Bowen and Evelyn, danger escalates as well. Because Evelyn has no intention of keeping her vows to the Cŵn Annwn, and if she betrays the crew, both she and Bowen will pay the ultimate price....

​My review. 

You open some books at just the right time & that’s what happened to me with Katee Robert’s Hunt on Dark Waters. This book is so fun & fast & steamy & I was entertained by every minute of it.

The relationship in this book moves fast, you all. As in witch Evelyn is leaving a different lover’s house at the beginning of the book & by the end she is very much in a happy relationship with Captain Bowen, our other protagonist.

That might bother me in a different book/genre but this book is about mess & life in the gray & I am very much into it.

Evelyn is a witch & a thief & she impulsively steals her former lover Lizzie’s jewelry before she escapes into a portal. She ends up in Threshold & on the ship of Captain Bowen, a monster hunter who gives her an ultimatum: take an oath and join his group of monster hunters or be left to the sea & the other monsters out there.

Evelyn accepts *reluctantly* & of course everyone knows she has not taken this oath to heart.

What follows is adventure, monster hunting, mercy, violence, acts of magic, “my witch” moments, body positivity, & great passion. .

Underscoring all of the danger & thrills is how both leads reassess what they’re doing & what they should be doing. Reckless & impulsive Evelyn helps devoted-to-his-oath Bowen see things in a new light.

Like I said before, I don’t know that this book would have worked as well written by someone else but Robert keeps a deft hand at work for me & I enjoyed the spectacle so much.
